Message from Our Founder

Walter Briggs

Overcoming adversity with a powerful and positive mindset

“I was very colorful person and I did not take any stuff. I am a blunt person that does not beat around the corners. I had to look at myself and realize that I could use my platform in a more positive way. Later on in life, I started some foundations and started helping people out. My foundation Hands & Hearts That Care is a foundation where I give back to individuals. Each month we give away a car to someone that has applied on the website and has been randomly selected. It is a great way to help spread the joy of smiles around. I was blessed with my career, so why not help others.”

Why Choose Us?

More than 34 million unpaid caregivers provide care to someone age 18 and older who is ill or has a disability.  An estimated 21% of households in the United States are impacted by caregiving responsibilities.  Unpaid caregivers provide an estimated 90% of the long-term care.  Hands and Hearts that Care (HHC) is a non-profit organization providing services to caregivers. HHC is dedicated to being a platform of information and services for the caregivers that extends from education and training to accessing community resources.

The caregivers are often forgotten as well as their needs.  Most caregivers do not get paid for the services rendered to love ones or someone close to their heart.  Hands and Hearts that Care provide direction to resources which aid to assist the caregiver in supporting their efforts during this time.

Most caregivers do not have a voice during this period, therefore Hands and Hearts that Care can create an environment for caregivers to have a voice.  “CAREGIVERS DO HAVE A VOICE” which Hands and Hearts that Care intend to assure the caregivers voice is heard and supported.

Our volunteer groups are diverse and are focused on helping others.

Many have been caregiver’s themselves and understand the day to day challenges faced by those they are helping.

  •  Accessing healthcare assistance and general assistance with the caregiver’s daily routine. Many caregivers are not aware of services available in the community to provide nursing assistance and general assistance on a weekly basis. Hands and Hearts That Care shall direct the caregiver to services that can determine the eligibility for financial assistance for their specific needs.
  • Accessing community counseling, along with support groups and spiritual guidance for the caregiver Caregivers find themselves isolated and alone after taking on this role and their social life becomes distant when friends and family realize the limitations that the caregiver has, to spend time socially. The caregiver’s family is impacted by the demands of consistent routine to take care of the love ones needs. This may mean children coming home from school and feeding the love one and giving
  • Making sure the caregiver does not neglect themselves and access healthcare services to assure their health is managed while providing the love one’s daily needs. Caregivers must meet their own health demands, such as annual physicals, healthcare maintenance and if they have their own personal health challenges.

Connecting to community respite services for caregiver’s

Caregivers need a break whether it is a vacation, weekend get a way or a day off for mental  health.  Hands  and Hearts That Care shall work to assist in connecting caregivers to services that can assist with providing down time, for the caregiver.

  1. Education such as health and wellness training, time management training and stress management training/
  2. Many  caregivers  due  to  the  consistent  routine  demands, tend to neglect themselves resulting in the caregiver’s disability that eventuallyenables the caregiver to provide support for their love ones.

Connecting to community transportation services to assist the caregiver with the love one’s routine healthcare

It can be difficult if caregivers are responsible to assure that their love one gets to their medical appointments. Transportation can  be  a challenge and financial burden, therefore Hands and Hearts That Care shall provide resources to caregivers to various alternative options available to transport their love ones for routine medical visits.

Connecting caregiver to various home care services, such as beauty hair stylist, barbers, manicurist, etc. Personal care is an important aspect of providing, routine care and home care services. This can be a relief for the caregiver to maintain love one’s upkeep and personal maintenance. Hands and Hearts That Care can direct caregivers to local home care service providers, in the beauty and hair care industry

Training caregivers on how to provide services to love ones. Each individual has specific  medical needs and not all caregivers are provided the education on how to provide such care, depending   on   the   specific   medical   condition. Therefore, Hands and Hearts That Care shall work to connect caregivers  with experts in the community that specializes in carrying out daily routine and home-care daily activities.

Assist with transition  when the role of caregiving has retired.

When a caregiver has been relieved of their services, transitioning into a life of independence can be a challenge. This means career service specialist and information to re-start their previous careers maybe necessary. Hands and Hearts That Care shall support caregivers along the pathway to re-establishing their lives back into PSYCHOLOGICAL, PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, FINANCIAL

stability and independence.
